Julia Munsey, a British artist had her second solo show  ‘The Embodiment of Time’ at The Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, Pall Mall in June 2018 to great acclaim. The exhibition featured a wide range of paintings and drawings that spanned the last 20 years, showcasing Munsey’s intrigue in capturing the possibilities of the body and movement.

Julia’s work has two main areas of focus. First she is concerned with the movement of human form. The influence of Euan Uglow in her work combining with her great interests – the paintings of Ingres and Old Master drawings.

Secondly, draftsmanship features in her work – together with another partially surreal component – a lessening of detail which produces a powerful sense of remote idealism in this body of work. Her definite forms are partially obscured by a deliberate lessening of detail. This introduces a dissonance though carefully controlled and modelled.
